To truly be for the people and by the people, government at every level should do whatever it can to limit barriers to entry, participation and information. Justyn strongly supports:

  • Fostering local civic engagement in Des Moines’ active neighborhood associations and resurrecting dormant ones
  • Making sure city boards and commissions are properly and equitably staffed through partnerships with local businesses and organizations
  • Making City Council meetings more accessible to the public
    • Being entirely remote creates a significant barrier for those without access to the Internet
    • The current meeting starting time is a significant barrier to workers, especially those that commute outside of the city for work.
    • Citizens, journalists, and activists should be able to access public records in a timely and affordable manner, including any public business conducted on private devices
